Storytelling
I’ve always been a storyteller. To this day I have an anecdote in my pocket for every occasion, serving me well as a hairstylist. People come to see me on their special occasions, or their not-so-special occasions. I’ve prepared people for weddings, birthdays, job transitions, mommy makeovers, vacations, court, cancer treatment, and funerals. People share the details of these experiences with me, and I cherish them. I remember them. I remember the looks on their faces of joy, anger, sorrow and everything between. I remember the way these stories made me feel, and I keep them for someone else who might need them someday.
I never give personal identifiers. Ever. Only the meat and potatoes of their stories. When someone overcame something that seemed impossible, their silver linings, their resilience. I believe that telling stories is one of the most important ways that we can connect with one another. It’s a way to let others know that whatever they are going through, wherever they’re at they aren’t alone. Or if they just need a really good recommendation for a restaurant for a birthday dinner, I can point them in the right direction.
I don’t intend to share many client stories here. My intention for this space is to tell my own stories because I have a few to tell and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at writing. I hope you enjoy it.
